Sun and Shadows Teach Observation
The sun is doing the work.
Children just need the chance to notice it.
For infants, it starts with watching light and movement. Shadows shifting, brightness changing.
For toddlers, it becomes awareness. Seeing their shadow move when they move.
For preschoolers, it turns into thinking. Why did it move? Why is it longer now? What changed?
Same environment. Different levels of learning.
Thatโs how observation begins.
Simple Activity to Try at Home
Go outside on a sunny day.
Stand your child on the ground and look at their shadow.
Let infants watch the movement.
Let toddlers move and see their shadow follow.
With preschoolers, trace the shadow with chalk
then come back later and compare
Ask simple questions like
What changed
Why is it bigger or smaller
You donโt need anything extra. Just sunlight and a few minutes.
